Sustainable Armadale

Armadale has become a town which covers a large area but has a relatively small town centre.

The existing town centre is remote from the south of Armadale. South Armadale needs a local centre to prevent the local residents having to travel further afield for shopping.

The natural location for the new local centre is at Armadale Station.

This diagram below illustrates 400m and 800m zones for optimum access to community facilities. It also shows that the town centre and local centre complement each other well.

The concentration of business, employment and retail activity in these two locations will ensure the long term viability of both and will maximise the potential for economic growth and regeneration for the town as a whole.

This proposal focuses higher retail and residential densities around the station as retail proposals outwith this area may be considered to be undesirable as they could dilute the local centres and the intended vision of an integrated community.
